CLANTON, Ala. (AP) – A Clanton man has been charged after police say he shot and killed his sister and seriously injured his nephew.

According to court records, 34-year-old Robert Fields Jr. is facing a murder charge in the Sunday shooting death of his sister, 48-year-old Rachel Pedro.

Fields is also charged with assault and attempted murder in the shooting of her son, 24-year-old Bamidele Pedro. Clanton Police Chief Keith Maddox said Monday that the son suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was in critical condition.

Maddox says multiple people were in the house at the time, but only the two were struck. Police found the woman dead at the scene

According to Alabama’s sex offender registry, Fields was convicted in 2005 of having sexually abused a 15-year-old girl in Illinois. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
