CONSTRUCTION ROUNDUP: HIGHWAY 82 TO CLOSE FOR MORE IMPROVEMENTS IN COKER, UNDER I-20/59

Trip Road Construction

I-20/59 OVERPASS

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will shut down the entire section of McFarland Boulevard under the I-20/59 overpass again this weekend.

The total shutdown will start at 5 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, and end Sunday evening at 5 p.m. However, at least two lanes will remain open on the interstate during that time frame, one heading in each direction.

Contractors plan on installing more girders for the overpass at exit 73.

COKER CLOSURES

County residents living on the other end of Highway 82, don’t worry. ALDOT hasn’t forgotten about you.

Work started last week to add turn lanes, widen shoulders and resurface the highway and will continue for the rest of this year.

Residents can expect lane closures from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily from Bel Aire Estates in Coker all the way to Northport.

However, ALDOT plans on having at least two lanes open so traffic can move in both directions on Highway 82.
