CONSTRUCTION ON BRIDGE OVER MCFARLAND BEGINS THIS WEEKEND
The Alabama Department of Transportation plans on demolishing the eastbound bridge on Interstate 20/59 at the McFarland Boulevard exit — Exit 73 — this weekend.
That work begins at 11 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and should be done by 5 a.m. on Monday, April 29. Both ramps to Exit 73 will be closed. The section of McFarland Boulevard that runs under the interstate overpass will also be closed.
Before that closure, eastbound traffic is shifting onto the new bridge beginning April 23.
ALDOT says the work is part of adding additional lanes between Exits 73 and 77 in Tuscaloosa and replacing the bridge over McFarland Boulevard. The work will be complete by early 2020.
Avoid the construction area. ALDOT recommends using Skyland Boulevard, Interstate 359, Alabama Highway 215 or another alternate route.
