TUSCALOOSA – Residents will soon notice some big changes coming to the Northport area.

In addition to the new Walmart Neighborhood Market, there are new traffic plans for the intersection of Highway 82.

The intersection currently only has two lanes, but with the new traffic pattern the intersection will have three lane options at the red light.

Adding this extra lane will ease congestion when leaving both the Chic-Fil-A and the Walmart.

“It’s kind of a spark to what is a new beginning coming to Northport, with a lot of growth,” said Rodney Sullivan, the District 3 councilman of Northport. “We’ve got a lot of rooftops under construction and planned to be constructed, so we certainly have to start looking at giving the citizens more options.”

Construction is set to be completed around July and the tentative opening date of the Walmart is fall 2016.
