COAST GUARD SEARCHING FOR MISSING SWIMMER

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) – The U.S. Coast Guard and police are searching in the Dauphin Island area for a missing man who had planned to go swimming and hasn’t been seen since Wednesday.

The Coast Guard said early Thursday that Alabama Marine Police and Dauphin Island police are also involved in the search for 30-year-old Daniel Sewell. Authorities say he went missing from Fort Gaines, where he had planned to go swimming.

The Coast Guard said friends and relatives have not heard from Sewell since around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Coast Guard is using a boat and helicopter in the search. Alabama Marine Police have small boats searching the waters, and Dauphin Island police are combing the beach.
