CIVIL RIGHTS TASK FORCE BUILDING UPON TUSCALOOSA’S HISTORY
By WVUA 23 Student Reporter Madison MacLean
Tuscaloosa’s civil rights history is a story a new task force was built to tell.
The Civil Rights Task Force plans on creating a trail around Tuscaloosa highlighting the locations of important civil rights events.
Potential stops include the famed “schoolhouse door” on the University of Alabama campus, a slave cemetery, and First African Baptist Church.
Task force organizers hope the trail will not only serve as a tourist attraction, but will acknowledge pieces of Tuscaloosa’s seldom-discussed past.
Task force organizers said they’re hoping the trail will be complete in the next two years.
