CITY SCHOOL BOARD PROPOSES CHANGES TO SCHOOL START TIMES

Board Of Education

By WVUA 23 Student Reporter Alexa Armstrong

Tuscaloosa City School Board members are reviewing a proposal to change the time that school starts in an effort to decrease tardiness.

The goal is to improve transportation efficiency, since many bus drivers are driving double routes and traffic is at its worst at the time schools start and end.

The board attempted to solve the problem by altering bus routes, but was not successful.

Proposed time changes are:

  • Elementary schools starting at 7:45 and dismissing at 2:30
  • Middle schools starting at 8:00 and dismissing at 3:00
  • High schools staring at 8:15 and dismissing at 3:35
  • Alternative schools starting at 8:00 and dismissing at 3:30

The Tuscaloosa City School Board wants your feedback so if you would like to share your thoughts visit the “Let’s Talk” section on tuscaloosacityschools.com.
