CITY OF TUSCALOOSA CELEBRATES ARBOR WEEK BY DOLING OUT 5,000 TREE SEEDLINGS

The City of Tuscaloosa partnered with Alabama Power and the Alabama Forestry Commission to give out 5,000 bare root tree seedlings on Saturday in honor of Arbor Week.

The tree seedling giveaway was held at the Tuscaloosa River Market alongside the Farmers Market.

Seedlings of several different tree varieties were passed out on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The event also included the chance to learn tree planting tips and proper tree placement.

“The folks come in and get in line and we give them a number and they go through and they pick out at least two of each species of tree,” said Todd Hester, environmental educator for the City of Tuscaloosa.“Part of the city of Tuscaloosa designation as a tree city USA city we do this in conjunction with Alabama Power and Forestry Commission to increase awareness about the importance of trees for our natural environment and the benefits they give us in the community.”
