CITY OF TUSCALOOSA ADDING MORE DUMPSTERS AS COLLEGE MOVE-IN APPROACHES

Trash Recycling 3

With college students set to move back into Tuscaloosa in the coming weeks, the Druid City is preparing for the inevitable onslaught of household waste generated in the moving process by adding several dumpsters to areas with high student populations.

Environmental services will place nine additional dumpsters in these areas from Saturday, Aug. 3 until Sunday, Aug. 18:

  • 5th Avenue at 16th Street
  • Meador Drive at Cloverdale
  • 8th Avenue at 11th Street
  • 11th Avenue at 12th Street
  • 12th Street (behind Tutwiler)
  • 7th Avenue at 13th Street
  • 9th Avenue between 12th and 13th Street
  • 12th Street at 14th Avenue
  • Thomas Street

A map of these locations is available at Tuscaloosa.com.

The additional dumpsters are strictly for residential use and will be marked with move-in/move-out signage. The city is encouraging people to place all debris inside the dumpsters and not in the area around them.

Environmental Services also encourages students to be conscientious and recycle garbage that is created during the move-in process. Items such as cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, plastic bags, aluminum cans, steel soup cans, newspapers/magazines and office paper can be recycled in blue curbside bins, recycling drop-off trailers located around the city or at the Richard Curry Jr. environmental services facility on 3440 Kauloosa Avenue. The facility is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
