The city of Northport will hold a public hearing on Monday, July 29 to discuss a new proposal the will increase sales tax by 1%.

“I think the tax increase would be a good idea,” said Northport resident Jeannette Morgan.

Residents will have the opportunity to voice their opinions to the mayor and the city council.

“Well I just think that we need to know where our tax money is going,” Northport resident, Frank Griffin said. “If they can justify it and they dedicate it like some tax increases are for education then yes but, if it just goes for the general fund and they can spend it any way they want, not so much.”

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Northport City Hall.
