CITY LEADERS ADDRESS RECENT VIOLENCE IN TUSCALOOSA

Stirred by a sudden explosion of deadly gun violence, Tuscaloosa city and law enforcement leaders addressed the media Thursday.

In 2015, there were seven homicides total, the last being in August. We’ve seen four homicides already in 2016, within a six-day period.

Three of the 2016 murders have happened in District 7. During Thursday’s news conference, Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steve Anderson said crime has shifted from areas like Alberta and Rosedale to District 7 since the April 27, 2011, tornado.

Mayor Walt Maddox touched on needed reform in the criminal justice system, and said it’s vital that citizens reach out to their state legislators in an effort to take back their communities.
