CITY FINANCE COMMITTEE PROPOSES MEASURE TO REDUCE GARBAGE FEES

The Tuscaloosa City Council Finance Committee formed a proposal to reduce residential garbage fees by $18 a month at their meeting Tuesday night.
“[We’re going] to bring this before the full council and develop a final piece of legislation but right now what’s proposed would bring us from about $21.35 a month down to $3.25 a month for residential garbage service,” District 4 Councilman Matt Calderone said.
The measure was proposed after the city’s plan to waive the grocery tax fell through. Mayor Walt Maddox estimated that waiving the grocery tax would have generated about $5 million annually.
Once the bill to reduce garbage fees passes the full council, residents will see the $18 reduction starting in November.
