AUBURN, Ala. – The city of Auburn may not seem quite as artistic following a decision by a city panel.

The city’s zoning board voted Wednesday that a mattress store had to remove its colorful, professionally painted “Greetings from Auburn” mural because the artwork violated a zoning rule.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports that the owner plans to appeal. Board members expressed appreciation for the mural.

But they say they had to make judgments based on zoning ordinance, and the mural wasn’t allowed.

The mural was unveiled in November on the side of a Bedzzz Express store. It includes depictions of Auburn University’s mascot Aubie; campus and town landmarks.
