Police are reviewing surveillance footage after a shooting occurred at a church in Tuscaloosa Sunday.

A Bible study was in session at Central Church of Christ on Hargrove Road when students heard a loud noise around 8 p.m.

“There was a group cooking in the kitchen so we though they dropped some pans or something,”
Carter was about to leave the church when he was told that someone had shot a glass door of the church. The gunshot not only shattered the front door, but damaged a couch in the front entrance.

No services were in session, but this is an area where many people gather regularly. Before the shooting occurred, members of the church had just been dismissed an hour earlier and people also spent time in the church 10-15 minutes before Bible studies and other events took place.

“We were really fortunate that no one was in the lobby,” Minister Scott McCown said.

Evidence from the surveillance camera shows the gun shot from what appears to be form the driver’s side of a vehicle, but the footage cannot identify the vehicle or the suspect. The church’s security team monitors the church grounds during every service and encourages all church members to not be afraid, but to be aware.
