CHILD FOUND UNHARMED HOURS AFTER DAD’S ARREST

UPDATE: Freelin Joe Burnett was arrested and is facing child abuse charges after the incident Tuesday.

Tuscaloosa Police say a 3-year-old girl is just fine after she was found wandering Greensboro Avenue looking for her father, who was arrested the night before on public intoxication charges.

The toddler was found unharmed but hungry around 8 a.m. after several residents called 911 to report her walking around by herself, police said.

During an investigation into how the child wound up by herself, police said they discovered her father, Freelin Joe Burnett, 25, was arrested for public intoxication around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said that thanks to Burnett’s intoxicated state, he didn’t inform officers that he had a child in his car, which was parked several blocks away. The only thing he told police was that he was from Fayette, police said.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department’s Juvenile Division said they were able to locate the child’s mother.
