A Tuscaloosa woman is facing capital murder charges after the death of a 6-month-old child in October.

Charlotte Tarasine Simpson, 47, was arrested and charged with manslaughter on Oct. 18, but a grand jury review increased that charge to capital murder. Simpson was taken into custody and taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail with no bond on Wednesday.

Simpson was alone with the child at the time of its death, and a medical examination determined that the infant’s cause of death was indicative of abuse.
