CHARGES FILED IN 2018 TODDLER DEATH CASE

Jacob Jones

A driver accused of striking and killing a 3-year-old child in the University Mall parking lot last October is now facing a civil lawsuit over the child’s death.

Jacob Jones was killed, and his mother Diera Jones was injured in the incident.

The driver, 73-year-old Carolyn Ritchie was charged with criminally negligent homicide on May 2.

Jones filed a civil lawsuit against Ritchie, claiming negligence and wrongful death. According to the Tuscaloosa News, she’s asking that Ritchie pay her medical bills and for a jury to award her pain, suffering and mental anguish.

Ritchie was arrested during a traffic stop and was later released on a $20,000 bond.
