TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – The University of Alabama Police Department has been moved into the university’s Department of Public Safety.

Reports say the change came after a reorganization within the school’s Division of Financial Affairs.

University spokeswoman Cathy Andreen says the reorganization aims to better align responsibilities and functions within financial affairs, which also includes auxiliary services, business activities, facilities, finance and human resources departments.

The police department will report to Ronnie Robertson, who was named associate vice president for public safety/enterprise operations.

The reorganization includes the promotion of university police Chief Tim Summerlin to the new position of assistant vice president for strategic planning and operations in the Department of Public Safety.

Andreen says the school will replace Summerlin through an internal search that should be done by Sept. 1.
