CARROLL’S CREEK FIRE DEPARTMENT MOVES UP IN INSURANCE RATING

By Arielle Lipan, WVUA 23 Staff

The Carroll’s Creek Fire Department received its highest Insurance Service Office rating this year at A-4.

The ISO is an independent organization that rates fire departments across the country from one to 10, based on equipment, water supply, training and more.

Tom Clarke, Carroll’s Creek fire chief of more than 30 years, is proud of the dedication from his department and looks forward to the future.

“I’m very proud of them, they’ve worked very hard and put in a tremendous amount of time and effort to help obtain this,” he said. “It’s not something that just falls off the tree. You work for it.”

Number one is the best rating, and Carroll’s Creek has been rated A-5 since 1986 until this year. Fire departments aren’t rated every year.

Once finished with the evaluation, the ISO sells its data to insurance companies, which use it to establish premiums for neighborhoods.
