CAR STRIKES, INJURES WOMEN AT JOE WHEELER STATE PARK

ROGERSVILLE, Ala. (AP) – Two women were hospitalized after being struck by a car as they enjoyed the beach area at Joe Wheeler State Park.

Park manager Chad Davis said Monday the women were struck by a car that rolled from the parking lot onto the beach area. One woman was struck, and the other was struck and pinned underneath the car.

Several men lifted the car and pulled the woman out from under it.

Both women sustained non-life-threatening injuries. One woman was treated at Athens-Limestone Hospital. The other had to be airlifted to Huntsville Hospital.

First Baptist Church of Ardmore identified the women on its Facebook page as Misty Calder and her mother. The church says in a post that Misty Calder has burns on her back, along with a lacerated liver, broken ribs and some internal bleeding.
