The Canine Classic 5K Road Race returns to Tuscaloosa County this weekend.

The annual humans-only race benefiting the Humane Society of West Alabama starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at Kentuck Park in Northport.

The first 150 people who register get a T-shirt on the day of the race, and everyone is eligible for door prizes. Sport drinks, food, fruit and water will be available. Walkers are welcome.

Betty Freeman with the Humane Society said the money goes right to the animals for their veterinary care before they can be adopted out.

“We have to get the animals in good health,” she said. “Get them all totally vaccinated, spayed or neutered. That way we make sure when we adopt an animal out, it’s a good, healthy animal that will hopefully have its new forever home.”

Registration begins at 7 a.m. For more information or to register online, visit
