Brookwood Middle School held a ribbon cutting on Feb. 20 in honor of the school’s new baseball field. The opening of the new field has been long awaited by students, players and staff members.

“I feel like it gives us more time to practice and less time on the road to get to other ball parks and stuff,” said Brookwood Middle baseball player Gavin Clanton.

For years, the Brookwood baseball team was in need of a place to play and members of the community came together to make the team’s wishes a reality.

Principal Daniel Bray said while the school started looking into the idea of building a baseball field last spring, it took nearly a year for the entire process to be complete.

The team finally had a real home game following the ribbon cutting and won its first game 10-0 against Collins-Riverside Middle School.
