BROOKWOOD HIGH STUDENTS, PARENTS SPEAK WITH BOARD OVER HOMECOMING CONCERNS

Brookwood High School students and their parents Tuesday evening addressed a regularly scheduled Tuscaloosa County Schools community meeting over the strict dress code enforced at their homecoming dance.

More than 200 students said they were denied entry at the dance because of the dress code, and several students said they witnessed the code being enforced only sporadically.

“We were very furious that night,” said parent Joy Gibson.

Superintendent Walter Davie said they are taking the complaints seriously.

“We feel like there are a lot of things that have been sensationalized to a point,” he said. “But at the same time, there are some concerns that we have to address.”

Brookwood students have started a GoFundMe account to raise money so they can host their own homecoming dance. If you’d like to donate, click here.
