If we’ve learned anything this year, it’s that every day is a blessing.

This week’s Bright Spots feature shines on a local woman who has spent her days, all 37,254 of them, in a good way.

Nancy Wilson was born Jan. 25, 1919.

“I thank the Lord to be here to get as old as I am,” she told WVUA 23 Reporter Chelsea Barton at her 102nd birthday party.

The 102-year-old matriarch lives with her large family in Tuscaloosa. Wilson has nine children and “more grandchildren and great-grands than I can count.”

Wilson still lives independently and spends her days cleaning, washing and cooking.

“I like greens, peas, okra, everything. I don’t like shrimp. I don’t like nobody’s shrimp,” she said.

Wilson may be counting her blessings, but to her family, she’s at the top of their list.

“We are just so grateful to have her as a mom,” Wilson’s youngest child, Lily Rancher, said. “She taught us great things: how to live, how to do everything. I am so proud of her.”

Does she have a secret to long life? That’s easy, Wilson said.

“I’ve been good,” she said. “I’ve been good.”

If you have a bright spot you’d like to share, we want to hear about it! WVUA 23 is looking for uplifting and inspiring stories to share. You can submit them right here.
