Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue responded to an apartment fire early Thursday morning in the 3400 block of 12th Avenue. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from a second-story apartment.

While fighting the fire, crews discovered a deceased male in the rear bedroom.

The blaze was discovered by a neighbor, who, upon seeing the fire, evacuated the building and called 911. Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue is still investigating the blaze, which appears to have started in the kitchen of the apartment.
