BOYS STATE OFFERS ALABAMA STUDENTS A LOOK AT GOVERNMENT

High school students from around the state are visiting the University of Alabama this week. learning about what it means to be a good citizen.

Alabama Boys State gives high school juniors who were chosen by their principals and guidance counselors a chance to take part in a week-long event featuring seminars, mock elections and a taste of the college experience. Students also learn leadership skills thanks to local officials and community leaders, said Boys State Director Pete Johnson.

“Everything we can do to make our citizens more responsible, more aware, more interested in their government, we all benefit,” he said. “And we give them a chance to learn about the state government, and learn about themselves and grow.”
