The Boys and Girls Club of Tuscaloosa has been serving children for the last 55 years. On Wednesday, they held their second annual Youth of the Year Award luncheon.

Children from all over West Alabama were honored for their outstanding achievements and involvement in the club.

“This is where we honor our best and our brightest kids that come through our program,” said Kim Turner, the CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of West Alabama. “We have children from each of our five clubs that are nominated by their unit directors as Youth of the Month for 2019. We will give them a certificate and recognize them in front of the public, as well as our two teenagers who have been nominated for Youth of the Year.”

The two teens nominated for Youth of the Year were Asia Diggins, the runner up, and Isaac Vaughn, who was awarded Youth of the Year. Former Youth of the Year winner Stephen Miller noted how important this program is to the future of children.

“When you hear the slogan, ‘Great Futures Start Here,’ a lot of people think it’s cliche. It’s not cliche,” he said. “I strongly believe that I am who I am because of the Boys and Girls Clubs, the values, the mission, the different things you learn, the activities – all of that is still with me.”
