BLAZE AT MARINA EARLY SUNDAY UNDER INVESTIGATION
A Tuscaloosa marine police officer is OK after his boat sunk while towing a ski boat on Lake Tuscaloosa early Sunday.
It happened just after 7 a.m. after a boater noticed an unoccupied ski boat that had caught fire and was drifting toward Binion Creek.
The ski boat was one of nine docked boats that caught fire overnight at the nearby Blue Heron Marina.
The officer began towing the boat toward the Tuscaloosa Police Department’s Marine Patrol Office when the ski boat began sinking and pulled the patrol boat underwater with it.
Police said the officer was pulled to safety by a boater who was fishing at the time.
The Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office is now investigating the cause of the blaze at the marina.
