elephants at birmingham zoo

The Birmingham Zoo is welcoming two new additions Wednesday.

The zoo has received two male African Elephants from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

The older but smaller of the two elephants is a 10-year-old named Ingadze. Nicknamed “Gadze,” he is reported to be easy going but also has a playful side, play-sparring with the other males from time to time. The younger of the two elephants is named Lutsandvo, nicknamed “Luti.” The 9-year old Luti is Gadze’s half-brother. Both elephants share the same father, male African Elephant Mabhulane.

The Birmingham Zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is typically $17 for adults, $14 for senior citizens and military and $12 for children ages 2-12. The Birmingham Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
