A Birmingham Police detective is behind bars facing capital murder charges. Alfreda Fluker is charged with shooting and killing fellow Birmingham Police Officer Kanisha Fuller while Fuller was inside a police car at a park.

Investigators said Fuller was shot multiple times. At the time of the shooting, Fuller was in a car with an off-duty male Birmingham police detective. Investigators said they believe the male detective had been in a relationship with Fluker, and a romantic entanglement between the three detectives is the cause of the shooting.

Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith said he believes Fluker had a clear motive and said justice will be served.

“We follow every protocol to make sure that we’re doing everything the right way and even when it leads to one of our own we’re going to make the tough call and we’re doing to make the right actions,” Smith said.

Fluker was a 15-year veteran on the Birmingham Police force. She’s in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
