Birmingham man dead after fatal wreck in Marengo County

A two-vehicle crash Monday morning claimed the life of a man from Birmingham.
Rodriques Dewon Cowans, 34, of Birmingham was seriously injured when the tractor-trailer he was driving struck construction equipment.
Cowans, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The construction equipment operator was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The crash happened in Marengo County on Alabama Highway 5 near the 7-mile marker, about a mile south of Pine Hill city limits.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division is investigating the cause of the crash.
