BIKING DEMONSTRATION TAKES RESIDENTS OUT OF THEIR COMFORT ZONE
When you think of riding a bike, do you think of pedaling along well-lit, easygoing paths, or barreling along a scenic trail of packed dirt, rocks and grit?
If you’d like to try the latter, Bicycle Store of Tuscaloosa’s Timothy Wakefield has you covered.
On Sunday, Wakefield played host to a demonstration for mountain bike cyclists of all skill levels at Lake Lurleen in Tuscaloosa County. Wakefield said he encourages Tuscaloosans to get out of their comfort zone and give it a whirl.
“Don’t think you’re going to be bad at it, because everybody’s bad at it at first,” he said. “You’re never going to be good at mountain biking until you get out there and ride.”
Frequent cyclist Chris Kelley came to the demonstration and said he enjoyed taking an electric bike out on the trail.
“Taking it out on the trail was awesome,” he said. “It pretty much took all the hard stuff out of the mountain biking and just lets you focus on the fun stuff. It’s so fast, that was the best part.”
Wakefield said he hopes to make the demonstration a monthly event, and said his goal is getting Tuscaloosa exposed to mountain biking.
