BIG SANDY ELEMENTARY RESOURCE OFFICER RETIRES

Officer Retire

Students at Big Sandy Elementary School said farewell to their school resource officer.

Officer Mark Weaver is retiring after 36 years in law enforcement.

During his final safety check, everyone lined the halls to show their appreciation.

Weaver said retiring is one of the hardest decisions he has ever made.

“It was very touching. That was one of my schools that I’ve watched kids grow up and to see them in the hallway high-fiving me, handing me their cards, and to show the love that they did, it was very touching and very emotional. When I was retirement age, 11 years ago at 25 years, I stayed an extra 11 years because I loved the kids so much.”

The school principal says not only did Officer Weaver work hard to keep students safe, but he also made each student feel important.
