BETSY DEVOS STOPS BY SHELTON STATE DURING RETHINK SCHOOL TOUR

U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy Devos stopped by Shelton State Community College as a continuation of her “Rethink School” tour.

Secretary Devos visited the college on Oct. 4 and said that the highlight of her job is getting to tour schools at all education levels to see how they can become more innovative. She said that schools need to continue to evolve their methods of preparing students for their futures. With 6.7 million open jobs in the U.S. for workers with skills they may not have, schools like Shelton State that offer tech classes are vital to have in our communities according to Secretary Devos.

“The bottom line of a tour like this is to help challenge schools and school leadership to continue to think broadly and far into the future,” said Devos.

Devos also had coffee earlier that day with leaders at the University of Alabama. She then visited the RISE Center at the University of Alabama to learn more about their early childhood special education programs.
