AUTHORITIES PROBING FATAL POLICE SHOOTING IN MONTGOMERY

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is probing a fatal police shooting in Montgomery.

Montgomery Police Chief Ernest Finley told local media that an officer on patrol in the city’s Mobile Heights neighborhood fatally shot a man he considered suspicious early Thursday morning.

Finley says the man was carrying an object that appeared to be a large stick when the officer saw him and the two got in a fight when the officer approached.

The identities of the man and officer have not been released. Finley says the officer has been with the department for roughly four years. He’s on administrative leave and will be interviewed by state officials.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Lt. Steve Jarrett says the findings of the investigation will be turned over to the district attorney.
