Central Elementary School had a special visitor this week, as author Shelia Truelove visited the school during its Champion Summit Nov. 26.

The event is held every Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. and allows “champions” from the community to come speak to the students. The summit and its speakers help to motivate the children and teach them how to be champions. Truelove’s visit focused on positive affirmations and believing in yourself.

“I am on a mission to put positive things in our children’s ears,” Truelove said. “I’m on a mission to change the way they think about themselves. I’m on a mission to create winners in a winning mindset.”

Truelove’s book, “I Can Win: Setting the Pace to Win the Race,” which was the focal point of her talk, is a motivational children’s book that talks about how to use positive declarations and confidence to become a “winner in life.”

“This is a book to motivate boys and girls to be successful,” Central Elementary principal Monte Linebarger said. “It goes right into the vision that we have here at Central Elementary in building champions.”

Community “champions” include doctors, lawyers, judges and educators from all over Tuscaloosa.
