At least 50 are dead and dozens more are injured after a mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

The shooter has been identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen of Fort Pierce, Florida.

Police said Mateen entered Pulse nightclub around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, then opened fire on a crowd of more than 300 people.

“After everybody was out, the shootings were still going, and the cops were yelling to clear the area,” said witness Chris Hansen.

Police said the shooter called 911 in the midst of the attack and pledged his allegiance to ISIS.

The FBI said they first became aware of Mateen in 2013 after he made comments to co-workers about alleged terrorist ties.

The guns used in the shooting were both purchased legally.

The massacre is the worst mass shooting in U.S. history and the deadliest terror attack on U.S. soil since the events of the 9/11 attacks.
