ASYMPTOMATIC CARRIERS OF CORONAVIRUS COULD BE MOST DANGEROUS
One of the most frightening and dangerous aspects of coronavirus is that some people are asymptomatic, meaning they carry the virus but do not display symptoms.
Experts say these asymptomatic people could be significantly contributing to the spread of the virus, without even knowing it. Dr. Thomas Weida, chief medical officer at the University of Alabama medical center, said that just because someone who has the virus does not initially show symptoms doesn’t mean they won’t eventually show them.
“Keep social distancing and wash your hands,” Weida said. “The folks who have very mild symptoms may actually be shedding virus but nobody really knows. You may think you can pass it off as an allergy so that social distancing and washing the hands is critical for preventing spread.”
Weida said some research shows up to 25% of those with coronavirus could be asymptomatic.
