As flu season creeps in, it’s time for your annual shot

The flu is probably not on the minds of many people, but it’s getting toward that time again and doctors are encouraging people get their annual shot before flu season gets into full swing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, flu vaccines are recommended for anyone 6 months or older.

Dr. Perry Lovely at MedCenter South said flu cases usually spike around the holiday season, but it’s important to get vaccinated now before the virus starts spreading.

“One of the issues is after you have your immunization it takes about two weeks for your body to build up the antibodies to protect yourself,” Lovely said. “You really don’t want to wait until you are exposed to the flu. You want to protect yourself before that”

If you’re due for a COVID-19 booster, Lovely said it’s OK to get both at the same time.

You can get a flu shot at your doctor’s office, urgent care centers, most pharmacies and even many grocery stores.
