Apples for Education ‘Share Bug’ is packed with back-to-school supplies

With schools starting in about two weeks, school supplies are needed more than ever. That’s why several local businesses and organizations have come together with Backpack Connections so students have what they need to succeed.

Alabama One and Tuscaloosa’s One Place teamed up with Backpack Connections at University Mall this month with a simple mission: Fill a Volkswagen Beetle to the brim with school supplies.

As of the end of the event on July 24, organizers said they’ve gotten about $30,000 worth of donations that will be handed out to 2,200 registered children ahead of school starting back Aug. 9.

Those students are invited to an event where they can fill their backpacks with items on their school supply lists.

Alabama One supply drive coordinator Pam Rodgers said she’s grateful for the community’s support in ensuring these students aren’t left behind.

If you missed this year’s donation event but are interested in donating school supplies locally, contact your local school system. They can help ensure donations go where they’re needed most.
