Another stretch of Interstate 20/59 getting widened
By WVUA 23 Digital Reporter Kyrsten Eller
Tuscaloosa has more road working coming, and another section of Interstate 20/59 is getting wider in the coming months.
The Alabama Department of Transportation plans to resurface and widen a portion of Interstate 20/59 from near Exit 71 to near Exit 73 in Tuscaloosa to improve mobility and safety for drivers.
The nighttime project will begin this week and continues through fall of 2022, weather permitting.
According to ALDOT, the contractor is required to keep two lanes open in each direction outside an 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. window so the impact on traffic is reduced.
S.T. Bunn Construction Company was awarded the 2-mile project at a cost of $6.51 million.
Expect delays in the area, and be sure to observe work-zone speed limits.
