West Alabama Works Job

A record 4.3 million people left their jobs in August, according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey Report.

In Tuscaloosa, the hospitality sector and small businesses are struggling at finding employees during the busiest months of the year: football season.

Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama President and CEO Jim Page said the jobs market is a mixed bag of employment challenges.

“People in the community that want to maybe switch careers or get into a certain type of industry, now is a great time to do it,” Page said. “There are a lot of openings in all of our sectors of employment, but once someone leaves a current job to pursue that it leaves an opening. It’s a big puzzle that we are constantly trying to work on.”

According to the report, there were more than 10 million job openings available in the U.S. at the end of August.
