ALBERTA BRIDGE IS OPEN

The barricades are down and traffic is flowing over the Alberta Bridge on University Boulevard
for the first time in nearly one year.

The bridge reopened on Thursday around 2:00 PM. The improved structure is now wider and safer.
After safety concerns developed surrounding the bridge, construction began around one year ago and since, travelers have had to take significant detours. The bridge may be open to vehicle traffic, but Alabama Department of Transportation Construction Engineer Dee McDaniel tells WVUA 23 the sidewalks on either side of the bridge won’t be open to pedestrians for two more weeks.
Nearby business owners and locals even came to witness the first cars cross.
