The Alabama women’s tennis team strengthened its roster with transfer Oleksandra Gorchanyuk from the University of Kansas on Friday afternoon.

“We’re excited about Oleksandra joining our Alabama Tennis Family,” head coach Jenny Mainz said in a press release.“She brings a fierce competitive spirit and a gritty work ethic to our BAMA Team. She’s definitely going to help our program and provide more depth to our lineup.”

Gorchanyuk, originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, will join the team in January 2020 as a freshman. She was ranked as high as No. 358 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Federation and held a 10.78 ranking in the Universal Tennis Ratings.

She made the semifinals of singles and doubles at the ITF G3 in Burlington, Ontario and won the singles title at the 2018 Veneto ITF Championship.

Throughout her career, she has defeated two Top 100 ITF opponents and was a member of Team Canada from 2011-16. Gorchanyuk was ranked the No. 1 player in U14 and the No. 7 player in U18. She currently has an ITF World Ranking of No. 795 and Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranking of No. 1230.
