University of Alabama women’s basketball added a transfer guard Monday with a familiar last name. Sarah Ashlee Barker, daughter of former Alabama quarterback Jay Barker, decided to transfer to Tuscaloosa to play for the Crimson Tide. Barker spent her first two years in Athens, playing for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Barker was named 2019-20 Gatorade Alabama Girls Basketball Player of the Year coming out of Spain Park High School. She helped lead the Jaguars to a state championship in 2020, defeating rival Hoover 47-44.

She comes to Tuscaloosa with a lot of experience, starting every game for the Bulldogs in the NCAA Tournament. In her sophomore season, Barker averaged under 8 points and four rebounds a game. She contributed to the Bulldogs earning the sixth seed in the Tournament, where they were defeated by Iowa State in the Round of 32.

She is also the sister of Braxton Barker, who was a walk-on quarterback for the Crimson Tide and is now on the coaching staff as a graduate assistant.
