Unemployment Job Cropped

Alabama’s unemployment rate held steady at 3.1% in September.

Nearly 69,000 people were reported to be unemployed this past month statewide. Officials say the outlook is positive, however, compared to last year when it was up to 6 percent.

Alabama Department of Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington said the state is still growing, even though unemployment numbers were stagnant in September.

“We’re excited about where we are trending with our job report,” Washington said. “That’s two jobs for every one person that is unemployed. That’s a really huge benefit to the state of Alabama. More than 90,000 people are working right now compared to last year’s time, so that’s another sign again that our economy is going in the right direction.”
