Homecoming at the University of Alabama features plenty of pomp and engaging events, but it’s also a time for students to offer a helping hand.

On Wednesday, UA students offered their assistance at local organizations including the West Alabama Food Bank and Temporary Emergency Services.

“One of UA’s pillars is service so we really wanted to incorporate that into homecoming week,” said UA Homecoming Executive Board Director of Community Service Mary Kate Grossmann.

Those who served at the food bank helped prepare backpack lunches for students.

“They always need more hands, and so we really thought that it was a place that had a need that we could meet,” said Grossmann.
