ALABAMA STUDENT STARTS PETITION TO FREE ‘DIXIELAND DELIGHT’
The lyrics can be heard around Tuscaloosa on any given day, but it’s especially audible on game days.
It was even tradition to play it during home games at Bryant-Denny Stadium, but as of the 2015 football season, “Dixieland Delight” is no more.
The song was banned thanks to complaints some students were chanting phrases that could be considered offensive while the song was playing.
University of Alabama senior Jon Adams started a petition online to bring it back for this week’s Iron Bowl.
“Players get really pumped up when we sing this song,” he said. “The crowd gets really pumped, I mean I can’t think of any bigger advantage we can give the team as a crowd if we were able to sing this song and you know get the whole crowd hype and just really get Bryant-Denny rockin’ for the Iron Bowl.”
