University of Alabama basketball play-by-play announcer Chris Stewart and his family are seeking prayers in the wake of complications following heart bypass surgery.

After his original bypass surgery’s success, Stewart developed a fever resulting in infection affecting his kidneys and lungs. Stewart is now undergoing extensive inpatient treatment.

Stewart’s family set up a GoFundMe account for his recovery, as he faces a long road of climbing medical expenses since his 2018 stroke.

According to the GoFundMe page, Stewart is making slow but steady progress in the hospital.

As of Friday, the Stewarts’ fundraiser is is more than halfway to their $50,000 goal.

Stewart has spent nearly 20 years as Alabama’s men’s basketball play-by-play announcer for the Crimson Tide Sports Network, and is also the radio play-by-play announcer for Alabama baseball.
