ALABAMA SOFTBALL’S CLAIRE JENKINS TO MISS 2020 SEASON AFTER TEARING ACL
Even though softball season is still months away from officially starting, Alabama has already lost a key member of its team.
Senior shortstop Claire Jenkins will miss the 2020 season as she recovers from a torn ACL that she suffered in practice, it was announced in a press release on Thursday afternoon.
Jenkins underwent surgery on her left knee Thursday morning and is expected to make a full recovery.
“We were very upset to learn that Claire was going to miss this season,” Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy said in a press release. “She is one of the most dedicated and hard-working players we’ve ever had in our program. We will be with her every step of the way in her rehab process this fall and in the spring.”
Jenkins, a Cullman, Alabama, native, started 69 games at shortstop last season, hitting .221 with 13 home runs and 31 RBIs.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Lyle Cain of Andrews Sports Medicine at St. Vincent Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.
